Frequently Asked Questions

A: Short answer: No. Longer answer: No, unless you can run more than one instance of miau. By default, miau expects to find miaurc in $HOME or at current directory if $HOME in unset. You can change this directory by starting miau with miau -d /path/to/miauhome. Just be sure you have fully configured miaurc there and remember to use different listenport!

Q: Switch -d directory doesn't work! Now what? I'm using pre-compiled binary, downloaded the sources from someplace else than sourceforge, or I have applied third-party patches for some particular distribution/device.A: Sounds like somebody hardcoded configuration file location. Please ask the maintainer to fix the package, or compile your own binary from vanilla source tree. This is a known issue with miau 0.5.3 included in NLSU2.

Q: I started getting messages like this:
[12:34:45] <user> -can anyone help me witht this? [12:41:00] <staff> +RTFM [12:41:19] <user> -ACTION scratches his head
What is going on?A: Looks like you are using IDENTIFY-MSG capability enabled, but either your client doesn't support it or isn't the one that requested it. CAPAB IDENTIFY-MSG is a feature of Hyperion, IRC-server of FreeNode that will tag messages to distinguish identified users fom unindentified. Once one of these capabilities is enabled, it cannot be disabled (as of Jan 12th, 2006, in Hyperion). To work around this issue with miau 0.6.3 and up, set noidentifycapab = "true".
